My Daily Park Essentials

Hi there, and welcome back!

As someone with a chronic illness, our park essentials may differ than those who do not have a lifelong illness. We have to make sure we prepare for everything, because we just don’t know. For me, I know that I cannot go to any Disney World park without:

-Extra-strength ibuprofen. Pain for me hits hard and fast. I usually try to either ignore it or focus on something else, but when that doesn’t work, I turn to the medicine.

-Hand sanitizer. Tons of people go to this theme park. Wash your hands often, then use hand sanitizer, then wipe everything down with a Wet One or Clorox wipe. Keep those germs away!

Bottle of water. Yes, you can bring water into the parks. Take advantage of this! And when the water gets too warm for your own liking, ask for a cup of ice at a quick-service kiosk or restaurant. Plus, this will save you some money on buying beverages throughout the day.

-Light jacket. I am anemic and have a lessened blood circulation, which means I am cold often. As hot as it may be during the day in Florida, it can cool down at night. A light jacket for your arms is never a bad idea, especially if you are going to stay in the parks the whole day.

-Poncho. The rain in Florida turns on and off like a kitchen faucet. When I get damp for an extended period of time, it somehow triggers a pain crisis for me. Buy a small poncho outside the parks to bring in with you. I would go to a dollar store to get one.

-Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Just as rain can be a trigger for me, so can the heat. I pack a very adorable (if I do say so myself) grumpy Minnie Mouse hat to bring with me every Disney trip I take. Sunscreen is also a must, even if you have a lot of melanin, like myself. Make sure to apply a few times throughout the day. And of course, my sunglasses. Not only are sunglasses useful, but they also complete your park look!

Medical card. Always, always bring your insurance card just in case. And in the event you are not traveling with your family, bring along a medical card that explains your situation to doctors, should you need to visit an emergency room during your trip.

Let me know essentials are in your bag!!!
