Hello, and welcome (or welcome back)!
I hope everyone is doing well and feeling safe, healthy, and happy 🙂
On this week’s blog, we are going to dive into ‘My Solo Travels’ Series: Part 4–Make an Emergency Plan.
In terms of planning your trip, this is probably the least fun but most necessary. Going on a solo trip is exciting, but it doesn’t mean ignore everything and everyone else just because you will be by yourself. There will be family and friends who are worried about you back home. To ease their minds, make sure you sit down and make a plan with them, should something happen. In Case of an Emergency, designate one person that you trust and can depend on to be your go to in case something should happen.
Things to include in your Solo Trip ‘In Case of Emergency’ Plan:
- Designate your ‘In Case of Emergency’ person: Pick a person that you can trust with this information, and who will come to your aid in the event something happens while you are on your trip. This person may need to take a last minute flight to get to you, so make sure they are dependable and have the means to travel.
- Write down the name of your hotel: Make sure you give your person and other trusted individuals the name of your hotel, and your room number once you arrive. It is also a good idea to write down the phone number and address of the hotel.
- Write down your flight information: Please, please, please give someone your flight information. This means the flight number, the airline, the airports, and the arrival and departure times. Make sure you check in with your person once you arrive at your destination, and arrange to be picked up from the airport once you return.
- Share your itinerary with your person: Let your person know a general outline of the activities you will be participating in each day. If you will be doing something particularly risky, make sure you let your person know, and give them as many details about the activity as possible.
- Decipher where the nearest hospitals are: Research hospitals and medical facilities before you go, and make sure you tell your person as well.
- Make a ‘Just in Case’ plan: In the event that you fall ill or you lose your phone or whatever the case may be, talk about what you would do with your person.
- Write down your plan and keep a copy with you: In the unlikely event that something DOES happen, make sure you have a copy of this plan with you at all times. If you fall ill and need to go to the ER, you can give this to your doctors. Make sure your plan has any medical conditions you need to declare and the name/contact info of your person.
These steps may seem like overkill, but in my experience, they have proven to be useful. My person is my mom. Yours might be the same, or it could be another person you trust. It is better to be overly cautious than leave anything to chance. Your steps might be more detailed or less detailed depending on your situation, so keep that in mind as well.
Stay safe and stay magical!
