‘My Solo Travels’ Series: Part 8b-Animal Kingdom

Hello, and welcome (or welcome back)!

I hope everyone is doing well and feeling safe, healthy, and happy :).

On this week’s blog, we are going to dive into ‘My Solo Travels’ Series: Part 8b–Animal Kingdom.

Last week, we talked about the rides and the excitement that they brought. Often times, when people say why they enjoy going to Disney World, one of their main reasons is because of the attractions. I love the attractions as much as the next person, but to be completely honest, I love the nighttime shows more.

The nighttime shows are rare and beautiful and magical and special. You can ride a carousel or a roller coaster at a lot of different places, but you can only see a spectacular visual display that embodies the Disney spirit at a Disney park.

After I ate dinner at one of the fast food kiosks (I wasn’t really hungry that evening), I made my way to the River of Lights pre-show seating. I had managed to reserve a fast pass for the River of Lights show, which ended up working in my favor because the show was absolutely packed that evening.

As I made my way to my seat, I had found myself sitting next to an older gentleman, whose name was Aaron. Aaron was traveling with his family from South Africa. He and his family had an incredible journey—they flew from South Africa to Canada to pick up their son, flew from Canada to D.C. to pick up their daughter, drove down to Miami to meet their other daughter’s family, and then they all drove up to Orlando to spend time together at Disney. They were on their way to Europe after this!

Talking to Aaron was so great. He is such a nice and honest and decent man, and his family is wonderful as well. Being that I went on a solo trip, this was the first real, in-person conversation I was able to have since arriving in Florida.

We watched the River of Lights show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s colorful, peaceful, moving, and vibrant. Younger kids might get a little restless because there are no fireworks and it is a full on light and water show, but there are graphics from Disney movies that are very captivating.

After the show ended, I wished Aaron well, and we took a selfie together :). Meeting Aaron was honestly one of the best parts of my trip. You forget that there are good people out there who care about you and your story. As long as you are being safe, there is no harm in learning about someone else’s story.

Until next time….

Stay safe and stay magical!

Ashley, MCT
