Hello, and welcome (or welcome back)!
I hope everyone is doing well and feeling safe, healthy, and happy :).
Last week’s blog post talked about how I am ready to jump into my next trip to Florida at the end of the year! As excited as I am, I know I have a lot of prep work to do before I am ready to go. I am not even alluding to the actual planning and shopping that I definitely have to do. What I am referring to is the physical prep work some individuals with chronic illnesses have to go through before a big, intensive, outdoor trip.
I have a blood disorder that makes pain a regular occurrence, so maintaining a workout routine has proven to be difficult for me. However, in order to have a truly fun all day at a theme park, my endurance needs to reach peak levels. Because of this, I plan on doing the following until my trip to make sure I am ready to go:
- Walk for at least 20 minutes a day! Walking is great cardio training for theme parks because, as you know, you have to walk almost everywhere in a theme park. A majority of my day will consist of me being on my feet. I want to get used to walking around for long periods of time.
- Taking regular rest breaks! Making sure your body has enough rest is key to being successful on any trip you take, especially one where you will be in the sun a lot. Make sure you get a good nights rest and take breaks in a temperature controlled environment as often as you can.
- Adapting to a regular hydration schedule! I am someone that needs to remain constantly hydrated (more so than the average human). In the past, I have not been the best with keeping myself hydrated. My goal is to drink three, 16oz bottles of water a day.
So this is my very simplified, but doable plan, to get my body ready for my trip! If you have any tips and tricks as to how to prep yourself for a trip, let me know!
Until next time….
Stay safe and stay magical!
